IGNOU Study Material Status

Students often ask one simple question: “My books are not received yet. How can I check the update?” This page is written to answer that question in an easy way. Here you will learn what IGNOU Study Material Status means, how to check it, what different messages mean, and what to do if your books are delayed.

IGNOU sends printed study material for many programmes. Some students also use e-content. But for printed books, the dispatch and delivery can take time. Your status helps you track the progress and take action at the right time.

What is IGNOU Study Material Status?

IGNOU Study Material Status shows the dispatch and delivery update of your printed books. It tells you whether your study material is:

  • Not processed yet
  • Processed and packed
  • Dispatched
  • Delivered
  • Not found (or not updated)

This update is useful for new admission students as well as re-registered students who are eligible for printed material.

Why your Study Material may be delayed

Delays are common. It does not always mean there is a problem. Below are common reasons:

1) Late confirmation of admission

If your admission is confirmed late, your books may be issued later.

2) Incorrect address

Even a small issue like wrong PIN code or incomplete address can delay delivery.

3) Stock not available

Sometimes a few blocks (subjects) are not available in stock. In that case, dispatch happens in parts.

4) Regional Centre workload

During peak sessions (January and July), many students apply. Dispatch can take longer.

5) Courier/post delay

Books are usually sent via post/courier system. Delivery depends on your location.

What Different Messages in Status Mean

When you check IGNOU Study Material Status, you may see different results. Here is what each one usually means:

“Not Found” / “No Record Found”

This can happen when:

  • Your admission is very new and data is not updated yet
  • You entered wrong enrollment number
  • Your books are not processed yet
  • The portal is under update

What to do: Wait 7–15 days after admission confirmation and check again.

“Processed”

It usually means your books are approved for dispatch and are in the packing stage.

What to do: Check again after a few days.

“Dispatched”

It means books have been sent to your address.

What to do: Note the consignment number and track delivery.

“Delivered”

It means the books were delivered at the address.

What to do: If you did not receive them, check with your family/neighbour or visit your local post office with the tracking number.

What to do if you did not get study material

If your IGNOU Study Material Status shows dispatched but you still did not receive books:

1) Track the parcel

Use the consignment number to track.

2) Contact your local post office

Many times the parcel reaches the post office and waits there. Carry:

  • Enrollment number
  • Tracking number
  • ID proof (if required)

3) Check delivery address details

If address is wrong, delivery can fail. In such cases, parcel may return.

4) Contact IGNOU support

You can contact:

  • Your Regional Centre
  • Material Production & Distribution Division (MPDD) (for material dispatch issues)

When you contact, share:

  • Enrollment number
  • Programme name
  • Admission session (Jan/July)
  • Full address with PIN
