IGNOU Regional Centres
IGNOU Regional Centres provide educational support, guidance, and resources
for diverse programs, serving students in specific regions efficiently.
IGNOU Regional Networks 2024: Bridging Education Across Regions
At a IGNOU Regional Centre, there are three main types of activities: academic, administrative, and promotional. These centers help promote the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Open University system, look after study centers and support services, and organize training programs for coordinators, counselors, and other staff in the region.
Regional Centers are like smaller offices of the University, handling day-to-day tasks, and they also serve as a valuable resource hub for the University in their specific regions.

Which are the IGNOU Regional Centres?
The University operates using a network of 56 Regional Centres (RC) and 11 Recognized Regional Centers (RRC) – 6 of which are IGNOU-Army RRC, 4 IGNOU-Navy RRC, and 1 I GNOU-Assam Rifles RRC. Additionally, there are almost 2000 Learner Support Centers (LSC) spread across the country.
This extensive network allows IGNOU to reach people in rural and remote areas, as well as those who face social or physical challenges, giving them the opportunity to access affordable and high-quality higher education in a flexible way.
According to Section 2(J) of the IGNOU Act, a Regional Centre is a center set up or managed by the University. Its main role is to organize and oversee the operations of Study Centers in a particular region. It can also perform additional functions as assigned by the Board of Management (BoM).
“According to Section 5(1) (XXVI) of the Act, the University has the authority to grant independent status to a College or a Regional Centre as outlined in its rules and regulations.”
IGNOU Establishment of Regional Centres (RCs)
Regional Centers, established in collaboration with State Governments, promote Open and Distance Learning (ODL) in their regions. They create, develop, maintain, and oversee Learner Support Centers (LSCs). These centers deliver programs, provide student support, and organize staff development initiatives.
IGNOU’s first RC was established in Delhi in 1985. Over the years, the University has established a network of 56 RCs across India, covering all states and union territories. IGNOU also has 11 Recognized Regional Centres (RRCs) and nearly 2000 LSCs.
